Jack'n'Jill, Strictly or Choreography?

There are different types of competitions in 4-Step Rock: Jack'n'Jill, Strictly, and choreography competitions.

Jack'n'Jill

Jack’n’Jill is a very popular competition format for partner dances, especially in 4-Step Rock.

Its unique feature? Everyone registers individually, and partners are randomly assigned during the competition. In short, you don't come with a partner: chance decides who you dance with… and to what music.

Our Jack’n’Jill competitions give you SCR4T points, a benchmark system for 4-Step Rock competitions.

Partner and music chosen at random

At each stage of the competition (preliminaries, semi-finals, finals):

  • partners are randomly selected,

  • the music is revealed on the spot,

  • you dance with several different partners throughout the competition.

👉 This allows you to demonstrate your adaptability, your listening skills, and your connection with others, independently of your dance partner.

Divisions for dancing at an equivalent level

Jack’n’Jill competitions are organized into divisions (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced), defined by the SCR4T system.

This allows you to dance with people of a similar level and experience a stimulating and balanced competition.

A competition focused on the individual

Unlike fixed-pair competitions, Jack’n’Jill showcases each participant’s individual dance, rather than a pre-arranged couple.

Judges observe, in particular, the connection with different partners, the musicality, the adaptability, and the quality of the shared dance. This is why SCR4T points are awarded exclusively for this format: they reflect individual progress, not that of a duo.

What are SCR4T  Points?

During our Jack'n'Jill competitions, results are used to award SCR4T points.

SCR4T ("Système Compétitif de Rock 4 Temps", or Competitive 4-Step Rock System) is a benchmark system used in many 4-Step Rock competitions, particularly in the Île-de-France region.

Rock 4 You did not create this system, but adopts it to offer consistent and comparable competitions with those organized elsewhere.

The SCR4T is based on a system of divisions and points, designed to support dancers' progress over time.

Each participant:

competes in a division corresponding to their level,

accumulates SCR4T points based on their results,

progresses to the next division when a certain threshold is reached.

The goal is to ensure balanced, motivating competitions adapted to each stage of a dancer's journey.

What are SCR4T points used for?

Generally, the progression is structured as follows:

  • Beginner Division: entry point for dancers starting out in competition

  • Intermediate Division: accessible after accumulating sufficient points

  • Advanced Division: for the most experienced dancers

Each division advancement is based on competition results, not arbitrarily.

For a complete description, detailed rules, and to find out your division, we invite you to consult the official SCR4T website, which presents the overall operation of the competitive system: https://4temps.dance/
