What is Rock?
Rock isn't just one dance, but a large family of partner dances found all over the world. At Rock 4 You, we teach 4-Step Rock (there was a clue in the name). It's the most accessible version of all the Rock dances.
4-Step Rock is a couple dance with a leader and a follower, who link steps together on 4-step music of many different styles (pop, rock, electro, disco, …).
Born in France in the 1950s (cock-a-doodle-doo!), this dance quickly spread to all levels of society. It can be found at weddings, student parties, balls… and even abroad: Belgium, Switzerland, Germany… (although each country has developed its own little local variation).
What is the difference between 4-Step Rock and 6-Step Rock?
Although both of these dances are called “Rock” and both date back to the 1950s, they have evolved very differently over the years, and differ in several ways:
• The basic step
The 4-Step Rock is not based on a structured basic step, unlike the 6-Step Rock, which inherits the logic of Swing (rock step – triple step).
• The music
The 6-Step Rock is often danced to music from the 50s and 60s (hence the slightly retro connotation), while the 4-Step adapts to almost all styles: pop, electro, disco, house, rock, funk… as long as the rhythm is in 4 beats.
• The dance style
The 6-Step Rock maintains a strong Swing/Rockabilly aesthetic. Impressive when well executed, it can also give an impression of "stomping" if technique is lacking. The 4-Step style, on the other hand, is freer, more fluid, adaptable to musical styles, and allows everyone to develop their own unique style.
• The community
Let's not kid ourselves: the average age of the dancers isn't the same. In 6Step Rock , it's around 60-65 years old, while the 4-Step community is younger: around 30 years old on average.
Isn't that an old people's dance?
We all have this image of the 50s Rock, with old men bouncing around, often conveyed by films or old music videos of 6-Step Rock… but forget that!
The 4-Step Rock you'll learn at Rock 4 You is modern , rhythmic, and sometimes even acrobatic. The average age in our classes is around 30. We assure you, the 4-Step Rock is anything but a dusty old dance. It's a vibrant dance that attracts more and more new enthusiasts every year!
Can it also be danced alone?
4-Step Rock is a couple dance, and therefore not danced alone (in itself, you are free to try, but good luck to succeed).
Are there any events outside your classes?
Yes! Throughout the year, we organize Rock evenings in different locations in Paris : on Mondays at the Concorde, on Fridays at Alésia, and other occasional dates (theme evenings, Gala, competitions, and many other projects to come that you will discover during the year).
Do you only offer 4-Step Rock classes?
4-Step Rock is the heart of our school, but not the only dance on the program.
In our studios, you will also find: Tango, Classical Dance, Bachata, Jazz, Ragga, Dancehall, Blues, Hip-hop, Dance awakening for the youngest, teen classes, senior classes… as well as disciplines like yoga or pilates.

Do you offer classes in English / Spanish ?
All our group classes are taught in French. However, all our teachers speak English and can help you during the lesson. If you come with a partner, he or she can also help you understand the instructions. So no need to speak perfect French to start dancing!
As for Spanish, one of our teachers is fluent and can offer private lessons, but group classes are not yet available in Spanish.
Do you offer classes for children/teenagers?
Yes! Specific classes are offered for children (dance initiation from age 4) and for teenagers. These classes are not limited to Rock: Classical Dance, Hip-Hop, Modern Jazz, Street Jazz… There's something for all tastes and all ages.
Find all our studios' schedules on our homepage!
Do you offer online courses?
Yes! We've launched a platform entirely dedicated to online classes: www.bien-danser.com(https://www.bien-danser.com/)
You will find 4-Step Rock courses (of course), but also Tango , Oriental Dance , Salsa , West Coast Swing , as well as Survival Kits to learn how to dance in a nightclub, or to avoid sitting all evening at a wedding.
Clear, progressive videos, accessible at any time: perfect for learning at your own pace... and from home.
What is “the Rock 4 You Troupe”?
A major new development for 2025: the creation of the Rock 4 You Troupe , composed of experienced dancers, teachers, and future teachers. The goal is to share our passion for 4-Step Rock through synchronized choreographies , to promote this dance style in France and abroad, and to represent the school in shows, music videos, musicals, and even film projects.
It's an artistic showcase for Rock 4 You… and a true collective adventure!
